Mr and Mrs Paul D Bagby of 718 Main street welcomed a son at 10 59 am today at Jefferson Memorial Hospital Mrs Henry R Miller of 718 Salem Road welcomed a daughter weighing six pounds three ounces at St Marys Hospital in St Louis Mo Catherine Clara born Friday afternoon to the Miller family Mr and Mrs Clarence Mays of 709 south 11th street colored welcomed a seven pound one ounce son born at Good Samaritan Hospital last evening.
Tom Hartmann of Asselman Air Service East St. Louis and several couples from Rochelle St. Louis Marissa Rockford and Chicago visited the Mt. Vernon Airport today. The group included Hallis Buck Rochelle and E J Henry Rochelle visiting Bert Clark and others en route to Evansville.
United Commercial Travellers Mt Vernon unit schedules a Sunday breakfast at the city park on May 1 for members and wives. Each family should bring bacon eggs and table service. bread and coffee provided. Breakfast ends before Sunday school, per Carl Drennan senior counselor.
Good Samaritan records admit Anna Doyle and Mildred Cox of McLeansboro with discharges for Albert Biri Linda Sue Ruth Presley and infant, while Jefferson Memorial lists Janis Bagby and Mildred Cox with discharges including Earl Belangee Jessie Cassada and Gertrude Record.
The Camp Ground Girls 4-H Club met at Mrs. Perry’s home with 15 members present. Betty Runnels gave a talk on Posture. The next meeting is set at Gale Page’s home on May 12 at 7 30 p.m.
Seventy five Mlindig Division Shell employees with ten or more years of service attended the Ten and Over Club banquet at the Hotel Emmerson. E A Davenport Illinois Division Superintendent led the event which recognized those reaching or exceeding 25 years. Out of town guests and entertainers from St Louis provided the program as 1063 years of service were represented by the sixty present.
Thousands march in Loyalty Day and May Day parades across Manhattan and Brooklyn. Two American Loyalty Day processions on Fifth Avenue and in Brooklyn, and a Leftwing United Labor Day parade on Eighth Avenue. VIPs including Vice President Barkley and Cardinal Spellman join in. About 250000 in Loyalty marches, 100000 in May Day trek. Gov. Dewey supports Loyalty Day. New Jersey and Los Angeles plan observances tomorrow.

Joshua G. Patterson, 1882 birth, MT Vernon native, died Friday in East St. Louis where he had lived 30 years. Services at Curtis Undertaking Co. State and 25th streets on Sunday at 1 p.m. Survived by wife Gussie Williams Patterson, daughter Louise Gilligan, brother Chan Patterson, five grandchildren. brothers Claude and sisters Lora and Lucy preceded him.
Wilburn Mading, 47, of Paducah Kentucky, found guilty of vagrancy after trial in Magistrate E W Threlkeld s court and sentenced to six months at the state penal farm in Vandalia. Fred Wortman, 63, of Evansville Indiana, was found not guilty in a separate trial.
Reported demands call for removal of all forces as 140000 Nationalists, about one third of the garrison, defend the Nanking Shanghai Hangzhou triangle. Nationalists offer little resistance on Hangzhou front while government units move to block Red advance. Kunshan area near Shanghai noted. Red troops there advanced little. Reports from Tass indicate Malik told Jessup Moscow would lift the Berlin blockade if the four power talks remove countermeasures and set a date for a meeting of foreign ministers. Malik later confirmed the report, with Western sources noting no new conditions. Delegates say talks progress, but next moves remain unclear.

George Edward Mills of Red Keenes Farrington township died at 3 30 am today at Jefferson Memorial Hospital aged 69 years three months and 29 days. He was a retired barber. Services Monday at 11 am at Garrison Temple Church with Rev Paul Wise officiating. burial in Garrison Temple Cemetery. Visitation after 10 am Sunday. Born December 31 1879 in Hickory Hill township Wayne County to George and Nancy Mills. Survived by son Roger Mills Nokomis Illinois daughter Mrs Earl Greffe Pana Illinois two brothers T A Mills Keenes Norman Mills Hubbard Oregon two sisters Mrs Norman Cornstubble Mr Vernon and Mrs Ernest Burbett Fairfield.
Owen D. Herbert Jr deputy in charge of the Mt Vernon division of the Unemployment Compensation Office announced 147 initial claims and 550 continued claims filed during the week ending April 29, totaling 973 weeks of unemployment. The same period in 1948 saw 201 initial claims and 450 continued claims, accounting for 795 weeks of unemployment.
Tom Pennington county supervisor from Mayberry township was elected chairman of the Hamilton County board of Supervisors at a county clerk office meeting. The nine Democrats and three Republicans were represented. Also noted were local civic changes including Francis W. Kittinger named farm adviser to Hamilton County and various funeral attendance notes for Florence Howell.
