W S Richardson Dies Veteran of Spanish American War
G W Richardson 80 of 908 South Street died Thursday at Veterans Hospital Marion Illinois after three years of declining health. He served in the Spanish American War and belonged to Gen Eben Swift Camp 94. Funeral 2 PM Saturday at Pulley Funeral Home Chapel with Rev Lester E Pifer officiating, burial Bethel Memorial Cemetery. He was born September 21, 1874 in Grayville. Survived by wife Flora Bean Richardson, three sons Irwin Mt Vernon Richard F E Collinsville and Ronald B Edwardsville, four grandchildren four great grandchildren and half brother Ed Hoffman Mt Vernon. A brother and sister preceded him in death.

Stolen 1949 Auto Recovered by Mt. Vernon Police
A 1949 model automobile stolen at Rantoul Illinois on April 18 was recovered yesterday afternoon by Mt. Vernon police. Officer Everett Dalby noticed the car parked on North Ninth street, checked the license number with the state police bulletin, and notified authorities. The car was taken to a local garage awaiting the owner’s arrival.

City Discusses Wheel And Cigaret Tax Street Jobs
Mt. Vernon city councilmen met in an informal session at city hall to set up items for next Monday’s regular meeting. They discussed a major street improvement project annexations wheel and cigaret taxes street oiling program and sewer extension work. Four annexations are in progress including a large north area set to join May 20 and the Earl D Jamison home property on 34th Street. Plans also call for about 24 miles of streets this summer and sewer extensions into the north area after May 20.

Cutter polio vaccine scare hits New York area
Health inspectors traced Cutter Laboratories polio vaccine shipments into New York City and surrounding counties. At least 219 people were inoculated in the city with 1114 packages of vials found, with 498 seized and the rest sought. Nassau and Westchester counties reported additional inoculations and physicians seeking gamma globulin. New Jersey authorities said about 1500 cubic centimeters had been distributed and are being followed up.

Father Of Twelve Killed By Train In Mount Pulaski
Webster Allen 46, a father of twelve, died when his car collided with an Illinois Central freight train at a Mount Pulaski grade crossing. The wreck occurred as the vehicle struck the diesel engine and was crossed by about 20 train cars. Allen’s children range from 3 to 25. Mount Pulaski lies about 10 miles south of Lincoln in Logan County.

School Buses Bump With 66 Aboard
In Galesburg Illinois a collision between two school buses carrying 66 students and teachers left seven injured slightly. Principal Gerald Finch and several youths were treated at Cottage Hospital and released. The crash occurred when a bus driven by Ralph Lee Jr. stopped at a railroad spur crossing and was struck by another bus operated by Donald Mumma. State police Sgt. Motorcyclist Eludes Police Faces Fines Totals
A youth charged with reckless riding and eluding a state police car was fined 227 dollars in magistrate court.
