Alva Turner 84 of Ina died Friday night at Piermont Nursing Home. Funeral services set for Sunday at Missionary Baptist Church in Ina with Rev. Sam McCoy and Rev. James Benton officiating. Burial in Kirk Cemetery near Ina. Visitation after 4 PM today at Ina Funeral Home. Born February 1 1879 in Jefferson County to Thomas and Mary Jane Cox Turner. Survived by son Frank Turner of Jackson Mississippi, daughter Mrs. Mary Dial of St Louis, two sisters Sadie Spencer of Whittington and Vera Faye McCutchen of St Louis, plus several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Funeral services for Silas Echols a longtime Mt Vernon high school principal who died Thursday night at 83 are set for 2:00 p m Sunday at First Baptist Church. The Rev Eugene Holcomb will lead with burial in I O O F cemetery at McLeansboro. The body lies in state from noon and may be viewed at Myers Chapel after 4:00 p m today.

Minnie Phillips 91 of Marietta Ohio died today in Marietta. Former Mt Vernon resident she was a house mother at McKendree College Lebanon. Funeral 1:00 p.m. Monday at Lebanon with burial at Oakwood Cemetery Mt Vernon about 3 p.m. Survivors include daughter Mrs Willard Friedrich Marietta two sons Paul Phillips Corn Christi Tex Harmon Phillips Tulsa Okla sister of the late Wm C Blair Mt Vernon attorney and Francis G Blair former State Superintendent of Public Instruction.
Mr. and Mrs. Paul Dickerson of 419 North 16th Street are the new parents of a daughter born at 5 10 yesterday afternoon in Good Samaritan hospital. The baby weighed seven pounds four ounces and is named Barbara Lynn.

SPRINGFIELD Ill The Illinois Bankers Association presented a branch banking bill calling it a repeat of a rejected plan. J Ross Humphreys president of the IBA and Central National Bank in Chicago said the association will oppose it on behalf of more than 90 percent of Illinois banks. He warned the bill would foster monopolistic branch banking, reduce competition and merge community banks into a few large impersonal giants.
A massive explosion at the Allegany Ballistics Laboratory in Rocket Center West Virginia left three people missing and presumed dead while 10 were injured. A rocket processing building and several office trailers were destroyed at 3 30 a m. A fire behind a building burned about 100 yards up a mountainside but was controlled quickly. Four of the injured were released from the hospital and only one of the remaining six was seriously hurt.
