AP report by John Troike notes Illinois Youth CommissionDirector Troike tours Southern Illinois today to study sites for at least one new youth rehabilitation camp. The commission, already running four camps in the region, has been offered a 20 acre tract by Vienna. There are 11 commission work camps statewide with 374 youths. Funds for a new camp are uncertain. The plan includes Southern Illinois and one upstate site. Camps rehabilitate juvenile offenders who have not committed violent crimes and Troike cites a 91 percent recidivism reduction.
