Fred Tim Brown 52 of Mt Vernon died at Jefferson Memorial Hospital after five weeks as a patient. A railroad fireman on L and N for years, he served in WWI and was a Park Avenue Baptist member. Funeral Saturday at 2 p.m. at Myers Chapel, burial Oakwood. Survived by wife Mable, son Walter, brother Walter, sister Hazel, and three grandchildren.

Two Sailors Miss Their Fresh Milk
CAPE GIRARDEAU Mo Apr 24 A CAPE Girardeau dairy agreed to send each of two sailors a free 30 day milk supply upon their return from Korea. Seaman H V Reed of Commerce Mo and Apprentice Seamh White of Thebes Ill wrote the dairy seeking milk since December. Postal authorities warned against shipping milk long distances. The dairy will also send each man a ham cake fly and cookies with a letter promising milk on return to their home towns across the Mississippi River from Cape Girardeau.

Car wedged under truck in Effingham kills man
In Effingham at 1 a.m. on U.S. Highway 40 a car was wedged under the rear of a large truck. John Miller, 45, of Teutopolis, a passenger, died. Driver Leroy Ordner of Teutopolis was injured and hospitalized in Flora. The truck driver was not blamed. Miller was father to three sons in the Army at Camp Cooke and Navy service, plus a daughter.

Mt. Vernon police sent two Ada Oklahoma men Jackie Mullins 28 and Kenneth Dunlap 27 to the grand jury on 2500 bonds after they attempted to cash a 124 dollar forged check at Montgomery Ward in Centralia. Police said they had 19 checks made out for 125 dollars to Harry Davis signed by J E Wooster of Wooster Drilling Co Flora. The pair confessed cashing 124 dollar checks at two Centralia stores and are held in Centralia City Jail.
