Nine TV Sets Stolen From Three Motels In Area Heists
Authorities search for one or two men believed connected to three thefts Saturday night. Nine televisions were taken from Mt Vernon motels and the Country View Motel near I-57 at Dix. A suspect used a St Louis address, with two motels listing the same name and a third using a different name.

Two 19 year old East St. Louis men Gerald R. Bellman and Jordan F. Goeke Jr. died when their car ran off a frontage road near the St. Louis International Speedway and landed inverted in the Cahokia Canal. Goeke’s body was found in the car and Bellman downstream.

Four persons died in a two car head on crash on U S 460 near Radom Washington County, including Mrs. Sue Presswood 28 of DuQuoin and her daughters Gloria 10 months and Angela 6, and Gary Morris 18 of Dubois. Another Presswood child Shelia 3 was injured. The Morris car crossed the centerline. Civil Defense Rescue Squad freed victims in about three minutes.

400 Mile Crime Spree Ends With Gunman Captured
Merced California AP reports gunman John P. Bunyard, 27, captured after a 400 mile crime spree that included six abductions two rapes and two fatal shootings. Two Die In Upstate Plane Crash Aledo Illinois
UPI reports two persons were killed and two injured when a light plane crashed shortly after takeoff from Mercer County Airport in Aledo Illinois. Victims were pilot David Downey, 47, and his brother Robert Downey, 44. Passengers Jim Downey, 17, and Sam Desouza, 17, an exchange student from Brazil, were injured and treated.
