Telegrams to post offices threaten halting mail delivery expansions, hiring freezes, and overtime limits during a four quarter period ended last March. Ottawa AP Canada’s defense minister expects to reach a U S Canadian nuclear weapons agreement within about a month. Paul Hellyer says the accord will be notes exchanges not a parliamentary vote, as Pearson kaded to use a minority Liberal government after the April 8 election.
The Wabash Valley Association will hold a hearing tonight on a proposed 12,000 acre flood control reservoir on the upper Skillet Fork. The plan would flood about 14 miles of the Skillet Fork valley in eastern Marion County, proposed by Wayne County conservationists. The river has long caused damage and prior channeling efforts in Wayne County have had limited success.

Prices paid on the local livestock market were 10 cents higher today. The top was 13.10 for 190 to 220 pound hogs. Sows were 11.7 percent for 300 weight down, sows 300 weight and over 11.25 down. Boars were 8.00 and 9.00.

AP reports unchanged to four percent lower wholesale buying prices for live poultry and roasters in Chicago. Butter at the Chicago Mercantile Exchange remains steady with varied grade prices, while eggs are barely steady with grade A whites and other categories holding near prior levels.
National Stockyards Illinois reports hogs 11 500 head with varying classes from 150 to 300 pounds priced mostly between 9 00 and 25 00 per cwt. Cattle totals 4 000 with steers calves and heifers showing prices from 14 50 to 23 00 per cwt and bulls and cows in the 14 50 to 19 50 range. Sheep and lambs around 19 00 to 20 00 per cwt for good and choice lambs with pelts noted at 19 59.

The governor said the federal government approved commuting Francisco Molina del Rio’s sentence to secure the release of 21 Americans jailed on sabotage conspiracy charges. Cuban suspects Santiesteban Casanova Sucho and Garcia Orellana were detained after explosives were found at Garcia’s jewelry shop. Molina had fatally wounded a Venezuelan in a restaurant clash during Castro demonstrations. he was released on condition of deportation and non reentry.
The Mt. V. council approved $300 raises for city employees and considered granting a similar franchise to a company that will start construction soon. The mayor and city clerk were authorized to sign a sales contract for a snorkel fire truck with $500 monthly payments for 120 months. The Old Union school board’s request to set commercial water rates at school level rather than residential was tabled for study.
A weather summary notes heavy showers and drizzle along the eastern sections with more snow in the upper Great Lakes and Mississippi Valley. Four dangerous inmates escaped the maximum security block at Southern Michigan Prison in Jackson. Benjamin G. Moses of Cherry Drive has enlisted in the U S Army for duty with the Army Intelligence Corps, announced by Sgt. John Minor. A Mt. Vernon High School and Washington University in St. Louis alumnus, he previously worked as a radio and TV announcer in Vincennes Indiana and Florida. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ted G. Moses.
Burglars forced a door at the Knotty Pine Cafe in Waltonville last night. They entered the building, then robbed the juke box and cigarette machine, taking about $40 in change. Local police investigate the incident.
Two accidents were reported in Mt. Vernon Monday. Arthur D. Highfill, 16, of 613 South 2nd Street, lost control at the city park and knocked down two posts, and was charged with careless driving. Earlier, at Tenth and Jordan, cars driven by Lillian Vaught and Donald E. White collided, with the Vaught vehicle damaged over $100 and the White car over $200.
Earl Allen reported to the sheriff's office Monday that a rotary hoe was stolen from his home east of Bonnie. The theft occurred between Saturday and Monday, he told officers.
A circuit court jury awarded J. H. Hamilton a $260.97 judgment against Robert Firebaugh after trial for damages to Hamilton’s car in an auto accident at De Berne in 1960 at Tenth and Westcott.
