City council in a recessed session voted unanimously to use five city owned acres southeast of town along U S Route 460 as a stopgap landfill until a permanent site is found. Mayor Joe Martin and Councilmen Kenneth Martin Coy Flora Woodrow Burnette and Russell Laur approved. Residents prior protests followed every site considered. The council also approved Continental Oil bids for city fuel and gasoline and transferred skating rink concession rights.

Krebs Honored as Mt. Vernon School Board President
Mt Vernon grade schools board elected Don Musick president at the organization meeting held Wednesday noon after last Saturday’s election. Dr Ferrell Puckett was named secretary with Krebs and Puckett reelected to three year terms. Krebs, serving 27 years on the board, was commended for service to local students and will begin his 28th year this week.
