The Mt. Vernon Evening Unit of the Home Bureau will meet Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. at 1233 Tolle Road, hosted by Mrs. Mae Hertenstein. Miss Anna Betty Huck will present the major lesson, Top of the Stove Cookery, and all members plus visitors are welcome.
The Shields Unit of the Home Bureau will meet Thursday April 21 at 1 oclock at the home of Mrs Meda Fox. Roll call will be answered with an exchange of perennial flowers. Visitors are welcome.
Youngsters from the Junior Red Cross under Mrs. Sidney Hirons earned the role of volunteers by presenting three dozen colorfully decorated Easter eggs to Good Samaritan Hospital. The eggs were used to decorate patients’ trays at mealtime yesterday.
Delta Theta Tau Sorority will meet at 7 30 tonight in the Mt Vernon Public Library.
Mt Vernon Garden Club will present a Flower Arranging program to the Federated Women's Club at their regular meeting on Tuesday. A luncheon is planned at Robb's Coffee Shop at 1 p m with Mrs Robert Lewis Southern Regional Director of the State Garden Clubs of Illinois giving the program. Mrs Nelson Cummins will chair the program and members will plan all floral arrangements. Naomi Circle Dessert and Meeting at First Presbyterian Church Basement Tuesday 7 30 pm.
The Cosy Home Club will meet with Madelyn Wilson on Ash Ley Road for a birthday party honoring Mrs. Wilson and Mrs. Pansy Webb. All members are urged to attend.

Mr and Mrs A W Rea of Fairfield Road welcomed a son Michael Wayne, seven pounds 13 ounces, born at 5 20 a m on Saturday April 16 at Jefferson Memorial Hospital. Mr and Mrs Earl Lee Kniffen of Bonnie welcomed a daughter Janice Elaine at Jefferson Memorial Hospital at 8 20 a m Saturday, weighing six pounds seven ounces. Mr and Mrs Troy Douthit of Route 1 Dix welcomed a daughter Ramona Sue at their home Saturday at 10 30 p m. Mr and Mrs Charles Ellis of Oak Grove welcomed a son Marvin Dean at their home Saturday at 1 25 a m.
Mt Vernon Federated Women’s Club hosts the fortieth annual convention of the 23rd District of the Illinois Federation of Women’s Clubs at First Baptist Church Mt Vernon on Thursday April 21. Mrs Silas Echols will present The Seven Marks of an Educated Woman with state federation president Mrs FE Byerrum addressing at 11 a.m. Registration starts 8:30 a.m. A memorial hour follows at 10:15 and a luncheon is served. Eight happy youngsters were awarded prizes Saturday afternoon after an Easter Egg coloring contest sponsored by Shearer Motor Co. Winners included Charlotte Ann Bruce and George Myers in the Pre-School group and Peter Jean Simmons Mike Trees Ann Myers Tom Peckinpaugh Mildred Baker Richard Briesacher in other age brackets. Prizes ranged from fishing rods and dolls to baseballs, coloring books and bats.

In St. Louis on April 18, the Browns sued to evict the Cardinals from Sportsman's Park and seek 222500 in damages. The Cardinals contend their lease runs two years with a ten year renewal option and have shared the ballpark under a joint arrangement. Browns president Bill DeWitt said the action followed talks at Baseball Commissioner A B Chandler's request. Saigh defended the lease as legal.
Seventy thousand United States soldiers in Germany wheeled into position to repel an imaginary attack from Aggressor Land. The mock assault, slated to strike from the direction of Czechoslovakia, is described by Army officials as a routine training exercise with no real strategic significance.

Rebecca Holloway wife of Ferd Holloway died at 7 15 this morning at her Fairfield Road home in Webber township. She was 59 years six months five days old. Funeral services are set for Wednesday at 2 00 pm at Myers Chapel with Rev Bird Green officiating and burial in Oakwood cemetery. The body will lie in state at Myers Chapel after 10 am Tuesday for friends to visit. She was born October 13 1889 in Hamilton county daughter of George and Nettie Smithpeters and married to Ford Holloway September 29 1913. The couple once ran a grocery on east Casey Avenue Mt Vernon. She was a member of East Side Baptist church and Rebekah Lodge. Surviving are her husband two brothers Ralph and Charles Smithpeters Mt Vernon three sisters Mrs Thomas S Berry Mrs Robert Lyle of Mt Vernon and Mrs Robert Gamble Effingham.
Cyrus Fisher 75 a former Mt. Vernon resident died Sunday in Chicago Illinois The flour and feed salesman will be brought to Mt Vernon for services Tuesday at 3 00 pm at Myers Chapel with Rev John Maulding officiating and burial in the I O O F cemetery at Dahlgren He was born July 1 1873 in Franklin county Son of John and Mary Fisher He was married to Carista Harrington who preceded him in death Survived by sisters Ada Sneed Mt Vernon and Mrs Guy Moore Tuscola and brothers Chester San Francisco and Gus Chicago He was a member of the Methodist church.
Henry Overton colored, of 513 South 13th street, died 11:45 p.m. Saturday at Jefferson County Memorial Hospital. He was 64 years five months and fourteen days old and a resident of Mt. Vernon for 38 years. Funeral 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Campbell and Parker Funeral Home. Rev. D. W. Jackson officiating. Burial in Oakwood cemetery. Born in Pikes Peak, Kentucky. Survived by wife Ruby, daughter Laura Henry of Springfield Illinois, four brothers James and Robert in Chicago, Hildred in Mt. Vernon Ind., Charlie in Dixon Illinois, one sister Lula Cole of Mt. Vernon Ind., and one grandson.

Four persons were injured in a collision on state highway 15 at Sims yesterday afternoon. Mrs Mary Ruth Ferrill 30 of Muncie Indiana was severely hurt with a fractured hip and knee. Her husband Dr Everett Ferrill an instructor at Ball State Teachers College Muncie suffered head cuts. Mr and Mrs Hiller of Makanda Illinois had minor cuts and bruises. The Ferrills two young daughters were uninjured. Details were not learned here. The four injured were treated at Jefferson Memorial Hospital and the Ferrills remained patients today.
