In Fremont Ohio AP Wilbur N Borchers 45 of Olney Illinois was killed when his car rear ended a tractor trailer on U S 20 in Woodville near Fremont Walter Gandlin 42 of Evansville Indiana stopped the truck at a railroad crossing and was unhurt
In Effingham Illinois an explosive device built from four sticks of dynamite was found in an alley behind a furniture store. Police closed the area while investigations continued. A six foot fuse had been lit but did not burn further.
Jerrie Mack, nearing the end of her around the world solo flight, left Tucson aiming to reach home Saturday. The Columbus housewife planned a stop in El Paso before the final hop to Columbus, where she began March 19, after a six hour Oakland to Tucson leg. she said she was only a little fatigued.

Chicago Grain notes no wheat or soybean sales. Corn prices listed for No 1 yellow 1.28, No 2 yellow 1.38, No 4 yellow 1.26 percent. Oats cited as No 2 extra heavy white 68 percent and No 2 extra heavy mixed 6814. Soybean oil price at 8.05.

PINCKNEYVILLE TH AP Norman Teel 37 found guilty in circuit court of attempted murder in a bomb blast at a Du Quoin home where he once lived. Sentencing delayed 30 days after the jury verdict. Police say Teel set fire January 3 forcing resident Jerry Lovel to flee through a door. Lovel suffered facial injuries from an explosive filled shotgun.
President De Gaulle, age 73, did not announce new policy after surgery. He defended France's heavy foreign aid and nuclear program while urging a “third force” leadership between the United States and the Soviet Union. Watson of Belleville sustaining over $100 in damage. W. P. Wohler of Villa Park Illinois drove the truck with about $25 damage. Brown faced a charge of illegal lane usage.
AP report states the Red wood Inn restaurant north of Urbana on US 45 was destroyed by fire early today. Owner Bill Thompson estimates damage at 250000 dollars. Firefighters from Carroll-Addition, Eastern Prairie and Scootwood fought the blaze. The property next to Jim Airport was undamaged.

Thomas L. McKee 41 of 325 South Tenth Street was ordered committed to the Danville Veterans Hospital after a mental hearing in circuit court. McKee allegedly struck a man at the bus station, then hit State Trooper Glen Solomon during arrest, fracturing a bone in his face. Aggravated battery charge pending.
Judge Randall S. Quindry will preside in Mt Vernon next Monday over civil circuit court trials. No criminal trials are scheduled. The same jury panel began work in February and will report for jury duty.
The sheriff's office logged two thefts on Thursday. Tom Bullock reported a blue 12 foot plywood boat vanished from a field at his home. Robert Croesnoe said two dozen golf balls were stolen from his locker at the Green Hills Country Club.

Mrs. Jay A. Guggenheim reported that the American Cancer Society Crusade nears its goal with a preliminary total of 3 553.99 toward a county goal of 6 200. The house-to-house canvas has reached 1 375 with contributions from business solicitation organizations and local events. Volunteers including Newcomers Club Junior Women's Club Eta Beta chapter Beta Sigma Phi Color Guard led by Hubert Griffith and Sgt John Ramsey helped boost civic efforts in Mt Vernon. Mrs. Glenn Moore chaired the meeting as discussions centered on renovation and remodeling plans and cost estimates are planned for the next session.
