Collision of NASA jet and Navy plane near Moffett Field leaves 16 dead
In Mountain View California a NASA Convair 990 and a Navy P3 Orion crashed on final approach to Moffett Field. Eleven aboard the jet and five aboard the turboprop died. one survivor was critically injured. Debris spread across Sunnyvale Golf Course near Interstate 101 as investigators opened a board of inquiry.

Ozark Air Lines and the Aircraft Mechanics Fraternal Association will resume contract talks Monday. Union President Oliver Delle Femme said talks ended Tuesday with 560 Ozark mechanics ready to strike. The wage offer is nearly settled with 15 and 30 cent premiums for licenses the main issue. Top pay at $6.80 is proposed. union seeks $6.82. Mechanics earn $6.02 an hour. The bargaining unit has operated without a contract since March 31, 1972.

Mt Vernon purse thefts injure two women in 10 minutes
In Mt Vernon last night two women fell victim to purse thieves within ten minutes. Eleanor Ballweg 212 S 18th St watched as a stocking cap clad robber grabbed her purse from a shopping cart in the 800 block of Broadway and fled with the cash. Ten minutes later Wava Dunbar 38 Route 4 was attacked in a lot at 9th and Jordan Streets. Dunbar fought off the attackers, sustaining a forehead cut and was treated at Good Samaritan Hospital. Police noted different attackers in each incident and estimated ages of 16 or 17 for Dunbar's assailants.
