Corporal Held For Murder Of Pregnant Girl

Chicago report: Army corporal William Murphy, 21, newlywed, faces murder charges in the death of his pregnant former girlfriend Sue Proeber, 21, of Palatine. Autopsy showed 3½ months pregnant. Murphy, from New York City, claimed self defense after a quarrel over marriage. he led investigators to the weapon and gave a detailed account. He returned from a New York honeymoon and was in Arlington Heights.

Two aeronauts parachuted safely from a 70 foot hot air balloon near the Sweetwater reservoir after it drifted west at about 1,000 feet during a failed transcontinental attempt. Mrs Edith Nation 70 of 14 Rushton Drive suffered a severe fracture of her left hip and a fracture of the left arm in a fall Saturday evening at the Elks Lodge during a lodge ceremony installing new officers. Driver Accused On Five Counts After Mishaps

Isiah White, 41, of 1125 South 9th street, was jailed after a pickup struck an utility pole and two other vehicles in the 1100 block of South 9th and Perkins lane. Police charge him with driving while intoxicated illegal transportation of liquor leaving the scene no registration and no driver's license. Mount Vernon Area Sees Three Rain Crashes

Over the weekend and early today three accidents near Mount Vernon caused injuries and damage. James Wilson, 18, of Woodlawn escaped with non serious injuries after his car overturned on U S Route 460 four miles west of Mount Vernon. Gertrude Hirons, traveling on state route 148 west of the Nasam road, lost control when a front tire blew and struck a telephone pole, no injuries. Deleena Goodwin of Aurora Illinois skidded on rain slick state route 37 south of Dix into a ditch. no injuries and minor damage to the car.

Mayor Dee of Mount Carmel Dies at 66 in Florida

Joseph R. Dee, longtime Mount Carmel mayor, died at his St. Petersburg winter home at age 66. He served as mayor from 1955 to 1959 and again beginning in 1963. A lawyer turned real estate operator, Dee led oil ventures and chaired several firms in Florida and the Mount Carmel area. Survivors include his widow Page Dunlap Dee and son J. Roy Dee Jr. Funeral plans were not announced.

Lawsuit Settled Over Auto Crash Near Dix

A $55,000 circuit court suit filed last July by Bernice and Joe Morgan against James Coleman McVicar was settled out of court and dismissed. The incident stemmed from a January 16 1965 automobile accident on state route 37 about a mile and a half south of Dix. Bernice Morgan claimed 50000 for injuries and Joe Morgan sought 5000. Settlement terms were not disclosed.

Money Taken In Break In At Nu Bowl Lanes

Police continue investigation into a burglary at Nu Bowl Lanes at 17th and George. An undetermined amount of cash was taken from the register after a lock was broken on the front door. Bernie Kelly reported the incident to Mt. Vernon police on Sunday.
