Hazel Breeze leads. Jean Austin Circle meets Tuesday at 7 30 PM with Mrs Lucille Harlow Logan. Marie Outhouse teaches. Round Dozen Club meets at Effie Partridges home 900 Park Avenue Wednesday. bring tea towel or handkerchief. American Legion Auxiliary meets tonight at 7 30 PM at Legion hall East Broadway for important business.
The Gleaner's Class of Park Avenue church will meet in the church basement Tuesday night April 11 at 7 30 for a social. Members are urged to attend and visitors are welcome.
A stated Mt Vernon Chapter 233 Order of the Eastern Star meeting will be at the Masonic Temple on Tuesday April 11 at 7 30 p m. A Cancer Research film will be shown after the business session.
The Woman's Society of Christian Service at First Methodist Church plans a general meeting on Tuesday April 11 at 2 30 p m on the church's first floor. Mrs Clifford Fore leads devotionals and Mrs Donald Lee presents Youth Our Partners in Kingdom Building. The nominating committee reports and officers for the year are elected. Members should bring room naming suggestions. An executive board meeting follows.
A special meeting of Mt. Vernon Lodge No. 31 A M and A M will be held Monday April 10 at 730 p m Visitation is welcome and members are urged to attend The session will cover third degree work and is open to eligible brethren
Dorcas Class of Logan Street Baptist Church meets Tuesday at 7 30 PM in Mrs Howard Richardson home 1125 Oakland Avenue. Mrs L C White will lead the devotional services. A good attendance is desired.
Mildred Leffler of 903 South 1st Street marries Vivien Harvey of 1108 South 13th Street in Bluford Illinois on April 1. Attendants include Beulah Harvey and M. E. Leffler. They plan to reside in Mount Vernon. Block P T A announces meeting April 11 at 7:30 with 4 H Club program and officers to be installed. T.E.L. Class at Logan Street Baptist shifts to 1804 Cherry Street on April 11 at 2 pm. members urged to attend.
The Bethel Neighborhood Club meeting planned for Tuesday April 11 is postponed to Friday April 14. A potluck luncheon will be served as planned. All members are urged to attend and guests are welcome. The Wesleyan Service Guild of the First Methodist church will meet Wednesday at 6 PM at Mrs. J. E. Valentine's 1808 Broadway with a business meeting and covered dish supper.
Woodlawn Be-Bops 4-H will gather April 11 at 7 30 p m at Bornadean Gardner’s home. Howard Tigers 4-H elected officers April 7 at 7 30 p m at Howard School with Larry Medders as president. Harmony Girls met April 5 at Oakdale church at 7 30 p m with demonstrations on garments and 4 H prizes. Wolf Prairie Rams 4 H met with eight members and six visitors as films on dairy were shown and songs practiced for an April 21 meeting at 7 30 p m.
Charlene Russell, daughter of Mrs. O. A. Russell, wed Gorham L. Pigg Jr. on Easter Sunday April 9 at First Baptist Church. The ceremony featured double ring vows read by Dr. Andrew Caraker with uncle Edward R. Doughty giving the bride. The couple plans a Smoky Mountains honeymoon and will reside at 608 North Street Mt. Vernon. The bride, formerly of The Register-News, works for Bayer Hunefelt Drilling. the groom for Stock Excavating. Out of town guests included Mr. and Mrs. Edward R. Doughty of Oklahoma City.

Aubrey A Crowder of 708 S 18th street was severely hurt by a fall at his residence on Saturday afternoon. The Central Trades and Labor Council president and Register-News printer tripped on a wire in the yard and struck his head on a stone walk. He received emergency care at Jefferson Memorial Hospital and remains at home.
Senator McCarthy intensified his charges against Owen Lattimore by suggesting proof that the communist party paid him. He sent a telegram to Secretary Acheson from New York, saying he was shocked by State Department defense of Lattimore after a Passaic speech.
James J. Jennings of RFD 6 Mt. Vernon died at 3 25 am Sunday at Jefferson Memorial Hospital at age 88 years eight months eight days He was a farmer who had lived on the same farm 52 years Funeral services are set for Wednesday at 2 pm at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church with Rev Sam McCoy officiating burial will be in Pleasant Hill cemetery The body will lie in state at Osborn Funeral Home Dix after 6 pm today Jennings born July 31 1861 in Wilson County Tenn was the son of George W and Mary F Lester Jennings He was married 68 years ago to Alzora McMeen who survives He also leaves three sons Alvin and Claude Mt Vernon Earl Kell three daughters Mrs Nora Galbreath Mt Vernon Mrs Grace Moss Mt Vernon and Mrs Mabel Boles Dix a half brother Manson Walker Jonesboro Ark a half sister Mrs Sallie Scarborough Norwood Mo 18 grandchildren 36 great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren
Robert Krebs and Walter Pilson were re-elected to the Mt. Vernon grade school Board of Education in a quiet Saturday election at the junior high school. A total of 178 votes were cast with Krebs receiving 177 and Pilson 174. One write-in vote went to Bill Moore and one to J.A. Koons. Hold-over members are Marlin Rich Orian Metcalf Lawrence Collins Bryan Dycus and Marion Heifner.
Mr and Mrs Herbert L Pickett of Bonnie welcomed a daughter Linda Marline born Saturday evening at Good Samaritan Hospital. Mr and Mrs Donald White of 1112 Herbert welcomed a son Eddie Dean born Sunday evening at Good Samaritan Hospital.
Peurifoy urged a harsh view of McCarthy’s immunity stance and portrayed him as hypocritical. The State Department denied any current association with Lattimore and did not refer to him in Peurifoy’s remarks.

The local Air Scout Squadron will meet at 7:00 tonight at the Modelistic Hobby Co on West Main Street. The new Scout group is sponsored by Amvets.
In memory of our son Pvt Robert V Thompson who gave his life in North Africa on April 10. Tears and sadness linger as love keeps him near. Also in memory of Joseph R Hamilton killed in action in Germany on April 10 1945 five years ago. Sadly missed by wife and daughter Noma and Judy Ann.
