CHICAGO April 8 Police uncovered a $100000 scrap metal swindle and arrested Alferd Doolittle 31 of Watconda UK a clerk at Unity Manufacturing Company. He said he earned about $7000 over two years selling copper brass and cadmium. Two other Unity staffers Donald Fowler 26 Evanston and Lawrence Harr 53 Chicago were detained for questioning. Detectives said all three admitted stealing metal and selling it to a fictitious firm. Doolittle freed on $10000 bond served 14 years with $125 weekly pay. Fowler netted about $7000. Harr about $70.

Dismiss Suit Against Police in Cairo Case

Fire destroys auto near city
A 1937 model automobile owned by Francis Coberly of Meadowbrook Addition east of Mt. Vernon was destroyed by fire at 6:40 p.m. yesterday after a line used to wash the motor ignited. Rural fire chief Carl Jones said a train delay hindered response at the C and Te Main street crossing. The Rural Fire Department also responded to a second call at Luty Hawkins on Bairfield Road where shrubs ignited but Hawkins House was saved. The blaze was controlled in about thirty minutes with two fog nozzles and a 430 gallon tank, leaving about 400 gallons remaining.
