Mrs. Charlotte Lottie Rapp of 1401 South 11th Street died at 1 30 p m Sunday at Lowry Nursing Home. She was 82 years eight months and 17 days old. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p m Wednesday at the Pulley Gutzler Funeral Chapel with Rev Ray Jewell officiating. Burial will be in Farnsworth Cemetery near Keenes. The body lies in state at Pulley Gutzler Funeral Home after 4:00 p m Tuesday. She was born July 28 1881 in Wayne County, daughter of Carol and Mahalia Mandrell. She was first married to Orval Scott, then Tom Cates, then Valentine Rapp, all predeceased. She is survived by one son Homer Scott of Mt. Vernon, 11 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.

Man Hits State Trooper Here and Is Jailed
Thomas L. McKee, 41, of 325 South Tenth Street, was arrested Saturday after striking a young man at the local bus station then punching State Trooper Glen Solomon. The trooper sustained a facial fracture and was hospitalized. McKee was nabbed at Tenth and Broadway.

Sailor rescued after elevator failure on carrier Randolph
Four Mt. Vernon men faced danger April 1 when a deck-edge elevator tore loose on the aircraft carrier Randolph, dumping five sailors and a plane into the Atlantic 270 miles southeast of Cape Henry. Airman Donald R. Matthews, 20, reported safe after two others were rescued by the destroyer Holder. Two men remained missing while Matthews and two others sustained minor injuries but were in good condition. Matthews, in the Navy two years, attended Mt. Vernon High and is brother to Mrs. Robert Hayes and Wilma Matthews. The incident followed an explosion and fire but no further casualties were listed.
