Mrs Lillie Ethel Minor of Route 7 dies at 11 45 am Friday at Good Samaritan Hospital after a three week stay. She was 48 years eight months and 17 days old. Funeral at Harmony church 9 pm Sunday with Rev Kenneth Holland. burial in Harmony Cemetery. Body lies in state at Myers Chapel until 2 pm today then moved to church. Born July 18 1908 in Jefferson county to Charles and Alta Tate. Married April 7 1927 to Philip Minor. Survived by husband Charles Tate five sons Dennis Woodlawn Harold LaPorte Allen Eldon Jerry in the Air Force two daughters Evale Anderson Mt Vernon Shirley at home three brothers Irvin Ernie Harley Tate Mt Vernon two sisters Rosie Scott Veneta Smith Mt Vernon and seven grandchildren.

The New York Central Railroad Co. received Illinois Commerce Commission authority to discontinue passenger service between Chicago Harrisburg and the Indiana Illinois state line effective May 4 at 12:01 p.m. CST. The commission required substitute track freight service on an overnight express basis to and from Chicago. The railroad cited losses and low passenger counts, reporting 1954 55 and three months in 1956 average daily revenue passengers of 31.3 37.5 and 34.5 respectively. The order included 20 days notice for discontinuance. Other rulings suspended and set hearings on various transit rate and asset sale proposals and granted a water utility certificate near Glen Ellyn.
