Attendees included the Parsons Newman wedding in Providence Kentucky and trips to St Louis Jefferson Hotel and East St Louis while others returned from hospitals and visits.
Illinois lawmakers passed bills boosting old age and blind pension payments to 65 dollars monthly with cost of living adjustments twice a year. Governor Stevenson is expected to sign. About 1,300 of 126,000 pensioners may reach 65 by need. 23,800 may get 50 to 65. 1,000 of 4,600 blind pensioners likely receive increases.

Joseph Everett Parsons son of Rev J G Parsons and Gene Newman daughter of Clyde Hawkins quietly married at the bride’s parents home in Providence Ky on Saturday April 2. The Rev J G Parsons officiated with Harold Turner as matron of honor and James Monroe as best man. After a brief honeymoon the couple will reside in Providence where Parsons works for International Harvester.
Tommy Berry son of Mr and Mrs Thomas E Berry of 2227 College avenue attends Southern Illinois University Carbondale has been chosen for the part of Jean de Blanc in the Little Theatre presentation of Joan of Lorraine the spring production May 6. He also belongs to the Men’s Music Club and the French Club and lives at 603 Rawlings Street Carbondale.

In Effingham the 125 bed hospital operated by Sisters of St Francis burned with early reports listing the hospital chaplain Rev. Charles C. Sandon and a nurse among the dead. Nuns and staff aided patients as flames trapped many, with eight newborns found dead and others missing. Fire destroyed the building within an hour.
FBI traced Charles Crowe under multiple aliases from March 28 at the Beach Hotel in St Augustine to stores and garages in Jacksonville and Daytona Beach. He admitted identity and taking money from a bank, with $54 798.63 found in a suitcase, while authorities pursued him across Florida. A separate fire at a nursery hospital wing injured some and prompted emergency care.

A Missouri Pacific freight car derailed at Ford Illinois, knocking a Cotton Belt passenger locomotive off the track. The incident at 5:05 am delayed trains as the Cotton Belt northbound train pulled over to allow the southbound freight to pass. The passenger train was moved to St Louis on Frisco tracks.
Michigan tilted back to the GOP in the spring election as Republicans won their entire ticket with Charles M. Ziegler defeating Democrat John H. McCarthy by 66 000 votes in a race that highlighted a split from the Democratic Labor Coalition. The state totals show GOP strength in industrial centers beyond Detroit.
The Cook Paint and Varnish Co. at 115 S. Tenth street will close Wednesday afternoon in memory of Charles R. Cook chairman of the family firm. Mr. Cook died Sunday at Miami Beach Florida funeral services will be held tomorrow in Kansas City Missouri.
An advanced First Aid Class will start Thursday at 7 30 p m in the local Red Cross chapter office. The class will be taught by Carlos Young. All persons holding standard cards are eligible to take the advanced course.

Harold Nathan Jones Fairfield welcomed Bonnie Gaye yesterday afternoon. Robert Stuart Dean welcomed Phillip Stuart Monday. Richard M Miller Fairfield welcomed Nellie Faye last night.
Rural Fire Chief Carl Jones reported extinguishing a morning fire at Mildred Scrivner’s Ninth Street home beyond the city limits. A stove overheated triggering a wall blaze. damage was set at 50 dollars. Alarm rang at 7 00 a m with the truck arriving within minutes. control was achieved by 7 20 a m.
Rev Everett E Manring 67 retired Pentecostal minister died at his Orchardville home. Funeral Wednesday at New Church with Rev Roy Braddy officiating. Born June 10 1881 in Orchardville he married Miriam Waller in 1901 and is survived by wife three sons Archie Roy and Jim a daughter Daisy Stogsdill 22 grandchildren seven great grandchildren.
Officers of the United Commercial Travelers were installed at a banquet last evening at Robb's Coffee Shop. Installed were Carl Drennan Senior Counselor Claire Latta Junior Counselor Judge Frank H. Walker Past Counselor Lawrence Collins Secretary Claude Schmidt Sentinel Wayne Newton Page F N Shields Chaplain Bert McTageart installing officer and Marion Heifner toastmaster. Judge Walker spoke on his tour of western Europe. Music was by the Egyptianaires.
