Mrs. Chloe Tolley 77 of Dahlgren died at 12 40 am Sunday in a hospital at Anna Burial is Tuesday in Blooming Grove cemetery near McLeansboro Rev Bill Auxier and Rev Dale Denham will officiate She was born April 26 1878 in Hamilton county daughter of George H Clark and Henretta Jordan Clark She married Ernest L Tolley who survives Also surviving are a son Harry Eugene Tolley of Mounds a sister Mrs Ruth Todd of McLeansboro and two great grandchildren.
Arlie G Hayes a retired Mt. Vernon Car Company electrician died at 9 45 am Sunday at his home 1505 Jones aged 77 years nine days He was born March 24 1889 in Jefferson county and married Iona Phelps in 1910 Survived by five sons William Glen Hayes Russell Hayes Lester Edward Ray Hayes three daughters 22 grandchildren 14 great grandchildren and his wife Funeral at Myers Chapel with Rev Marsh Harpole officiating burial in South Hickory Hill Cemetery Graveside rites by ICCF Lodge He was a member of Free Will Baptist church and the IOOF Lodge.
Three non injury traffic accidents occurred with one hit and run noted. Mildred L Filer of 1110 Park Avenue and Bonne L Summers of 706 South Thirtieth collided in the 100 block of South Tenth Street causing about 250 in damage. Bonnie Summers charged with leaving curb without due caution. Herman H Hawkins of Memphis Tennessee and Carl D Pace of 1609 South Tenth were in another crash in the 1600 block of South Tenth with over 100 in damage. Pace charged with backing without due caution.
A Mt. Vernon area man, Roberson, 45, was found dead Saturday after family reported him missing. Coroner Richardson said Roberson died about 3 36 p.m. inquiry noted heart trouble. Funeral set 2 p.m. Tuesday at First Church of the Nazarene with burial in Abner Cemetery at Nason. Survivors include wife Ora Farmer and 1 son, 5 daughters, 16 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and several relatives.
Pete Hall reported his car was struck while parked in front of his home at 2217 Cherry. Damage was estimated at 75 dollars.
Hospital notes list admissions and discharges for numerous individuals across McLeansboro Richview Belle Rive and surrounding areas. Names include Annie L Miller Mary Emma Hayes Lee Ann Primmell Margaret Reed and many others with addresses in Welkins Fischer Lane Lamar Oakdale Casey 13th Street and other local streets. The roster shows patients admitted to Good Samaritan and other facilities and a separate discharge group with Gilbert Wente Donald Ellis Ethram Toney and others among the listed.
The Bluford town board meets tonight to discuss a possible municipal sewer system. A Farm Home Administration rep may outline loan details, with preliminary talks noted. Bluford already built a water system two years ago funded by a $100,000 grant and bonds. C. L. Jones heads the village board.
Mr. and Mrs. Jim Kaufman of 309 South 19th Street are parents of a daughter born at 1125 PM last night in Good Samaritan hospital. The baby weighed six pounds ten ounces.
Tornadoes raked a seven block stretch in Tampa and struck nearby cities including Lakeland Winter Haven Auburndale Clearwater Cocoa and Melbourne. At least nine killed and many injured as roofs collapsed windows blew out and power failed. Officials reported widespread destruction and urgent rescue efforts as rain flooded streets and traffic snarled.
One man was killed and state police trooper seriously injured in a head on crash on Route 140 two miles east of Alton. Samuel H. Sharp, 22, of Bethalto, died. Trooper Billy Goessman, 39, of Wood River, was admitted to a Wood River hospital in serious condition.
Market notes from Mt Vernon show soybean prices at 2.77 and corn contracts at 1.27 for shell corn and 1.25 for ear corn, reflecting local grain trading levels this afternoon.

Chicago Mercantile Exchange and USDA price notes show butter wholesale prices unchanged with various grade percentages. Eggs remain steady to firm with multiple grade prices. wholesale buying prices largely unchanged to slightly higher. Live poultry wholesale prices also unchanged with figures for yolk roasters listed.
AP report from St. Louis lists egg grades and prices: A large 39-41, A medium 35-37, A small 25-27, B large 34-36, standard 34-36, unclassified 32-34, checks 24-26. Hens heavy 22-23, light over 5 lb 14-15, under 5 lb 9-14, broilers and fryers 20-21 14.
Estimates for Tuesday show hogs 6,500 cattle 4,000 calves 200 sheep 300. Hogs steady to strong with 190 to 240 lb barrows and gilts 23.50 to 24.25, 325 to 650 lb sows 18.75 to 20.50. Cattle 4,000 calves 150 good and choice steers 25.50 to 28.75, heifers 24 to 27, cows 16 to 21, vealers active with 27 to 38 for top grades. Sheep 800 with lambs 23 to 27.50 and ewes 5 to 9.00.
Wall Street opened with heavy trading as blue chips and high-flyers push shares higher. The Associated Press average rose 2.6 to 346.1 at noon, Dow up 6.40 to 937.69 after an early gain, with gains led by Du Pont IBM Xtra Inc and Simmons Precision amid broad gains in steels rails utilities and oils.

A weekend of fatal highway crashes in Illinois left fourteen people dead across multiple counties. Victims include Mary J. Moeller and George Dale Henson near Decatur, Roland Hill on Chicago's South Side, and several others in Carrollton, Irvington, Freeport, and Kankakee area crashes.
Murphysboro reports three men face charges linked to a sidewalk slaying of bartender Ronald A. Butz 26 who was shot in a car. Gil bert Stewart 28 was wounded and hospitalized. Gene Hines 3, a cousin of the victim, and Stewart are charged with conspiring to commit aggravated battery against Lloyd Cheatham 40 of Vergennes. Cheatham was found unconscious. Paul 25, brother of Cheatham, is charged with aggravated battery against Stewart.

Edsel Rightnowar, 41, resigns as president and cashier of First Community Bank West Frankfort to become vice president of Edwardsville National Bank and Trust Company. He will move by July 1, with family remaining until school year ends. He helped form First Community Bank, chartered in 1964 and opened that December.
Robert L. Akins, 48, acted as midwife in his home to help deliver his granddaughter before an ambulance could arrive. The baby girl weighed 6 pounds 6 ounces and was named Traci Dawn. Parents Bill Tucek, 22, and Deborah Tucek, 18, had spent the night at Akins' home while Bill attended an Army reserve drill.
Day Publications Inc announces its second daily in Chicago suburb area. The Prospect Day will begin April 18 serving Mount Prospect and Prospect Heights with a combined population around 38,000. It will publish Monday through Friday and use offset printing.
Mt Vernon high school senior Becky Collins won second place in the Illinois state speech finals at Illinois State University Normal April 1 and 2 in the oratory category with a self composed speech Teaching Sex in the Home She advanced through local district and sectional contests and defeated over 400 entrants Becky one of two Mt Vernon students to reach state finals Jim Glassman also placed high in after dinner speaking Becky Miller forensics coach accompanied the contestants Ninety two Illinois high schools and over 500 contestants participated Jane Glassman now a University of Illinois freshman took third in 1965 finals Becky delivered to Mt Vernon students in a general assembly earlier in the year
Entries for an all breed dog show and obedience trial at Mt. Vernon Airport will close at noon tomorrow. The event, under the Egyptian Kennel Club of Mt. Vernon, is licensed by the American Kennel Club. Mrs. Joanna Walker handles registrations from Salem Route 4. Purebred dogs may enter. official AKC forms and owner or agent signatures are required. Mt. Vernon city and rural firemen answered nine alarms during a busy weekend. Most were for rubbish, grass and field fires. Rural crews were called five times Saturday for grass fires and related blazes along the L N railroad line and around areas near E J Bishop, Roy Jones, Minnie Smith and others. City units added four alarms including a gas stove incident and a gas leak that caught fire.
The annual fire hazard inspection in downtown Mt Vernon will start Tuesday. Fire Chief Sydney Burnette says captains and Inspector Bus Compton will examine merchantile and public buildings over several days as part of fire prevention efforts.
A 14 year old girl who ran away from Dyersburg Tennessee was taken into custody in Mount Vernon Sunday night. The Dyersburg sheriff's office notified local police after the girl boarded a bus there and arrived in Mount Vernon where officers waited. She was released to her father a few hours later.
Leo V. Horton, well known Mr. Vernon geologist, is in serious condition at Methodist Hospital in Houston after an artery operation on March 22. He resides at 724 Columbia and will remain a patient for some time. friends may send cards to room 683.
