52 20 Club Nears Extinction in District
The 52-20 club, offering 20 dollars weekly for 52 weeks, is nearly extinct in this district as veterans and non veterans abandon it for steady jobs. Fifteen veterans still draw compensation versus 127 last January, and non veterans drop from 64 to 2. The real benefit helped members bridge unemployment, but abuse and scarce work lessen demand as the local employment office reports fewer job requests and as many as 75 placements in some months.
