The Center Champs 4-H club hosts a countywide dance at the high school gym Saturday evening featuring square and popular dancing with Percival Myers calling the square dancing. Henry county 4-H members attending enjoyed free refreshments and reported high attendance.
Mrs Max McGuire celebrating a birthday Sunday Feb 43 was surprised by relatives who shared a basket dinner. Attending were Harry and Neva McGuire, Russell Williams and family, Everette Magdelrau clan, Velma Bondawyns group, Glen and Delbert McGuire, and Rev. and Mrs. David Harper with sons Delbert and Gilbert now in Oskaloosa. Nearby visits included Abe Blosser and Virgil Blosser families at Oren Yoder home in Parnell. Other guests visited Ray Walfe’s family in Lockridge. Eastern Star Instrace finn session held with Dorothy Rankin of Iowa City directing. attendees from Letts Mt. Union and Winfield. Lewis Spledel returned from California for an undetermined stay. Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Gleher planned a Pel 27 Florida trip. Many names appear in a social roundup with a late surprise basket supper.
New London Woman's club entertained husbands and friends at their 23rd anniversary dinner at the New London Hall. About 28 attended, with a 6:30 meal organized by Meg and others. A program used Nugen Library equipment and included moving pictures and music from a record player. Several local residents and guests were listed, with plans for the next meeting on March 10 and dues for the coming year to be paid.
Wynona Smutz of near Mt Pleasant accepted an invitation to join Delta Gamma at the State University of Iowa Iowa City. Pledging followed a weekend of formal rushing at the university and she is a daughter of Mr and Mrs Ralph Smutz
J A O Connor pleaded guilty in district court Tuesday to a charge of driving while intoxicated. He was fined 300 dollars and costs by Judge Paul McCoid.
Des Moines IA ITOPA An Iowa made film with an Iowa cast is being released statewide as part of the Iowa State League of Nursing Education effort to ease the nurse shortage. Roberta Fastje of Des Moines led the cast in For You to Decide along with Ruth Freestone Perry Mary Kersey Adelle Thompson Mary Olsangiley and others from Des Moines and nearby towns. The production used scenes from Town C hospitals and health centers to highlight humanitarian educational security and financial benefits of nursing. It will be shown by high schools civic groups and hospitals across Iowa.
A large crowd gathered for the Olds Congregational church casket supper on Tuesday evening to honor families moving away. Tables were decorated in green and white. Committee in charge included Mesdames Erwin Blaine Deyarman and John Huostan. Families listed moving from the community include Oliver and Ruth Ann, Letehty and family, Jeffery, Margaret and Alice, Davis family, Mawbaker and Derry, Reynolds family, and King family. The program featured group singing conducted by Mrs Sami al.
Des Moines reports the senate passed by 28 to 22 a bill legalizing local option liquor by the drink on licensed premises with strict restrictions. The measure allows retail sales by licensed individuals and clubs, with hotels and some venues permitted to serve, while minors and interdicted persons are banned. Local option requires voter approval by city or town in the next general election or by petition signatures.
