The Auxiliary Hospital Committee of the Veterans Of Foreign Wars hosted a Valentine party for 22 veterans. A large heart decorated cake with coffee nuts and candy was served after the table was declared. veterans wrote greeting cards and competed in contests with prizes. Jack Slate died Monday February 10 in Tucson Arizona while on a search for wealth and was buried February 12. He leaves his wife Florente Yah Hon, son Walter, a brother and sister, all formerly of South English. He served in World War I in Europe and recently moved from Mt. Pleasant to Tucson. Survivors include three stepdaughters Barbara Sue Jerrel Betty Ann Jerrel and Martha Melissa Jerrel.

Four double deck ears of lambs, over 1,000 head, will arrive here this Thursday from Kansas for local men. The eight decks go to Dair Barton, Everett Crewe and Walter Grant of southwest Pleasant. The first express company in America was established in 1837. It operated between Boston and New York.
