The leaves were said to be inadvertently mixed with a dangerous drug. Roy S. Pratt, district office manager, said the peppermint leaves were packaged byAlliance Woodward Co. and bear the lot Albers 32444 and SHULAG.
Two fugitives from the Clive state prison, Lyle Johnson of Atlantic and Wilbur Osborne of Des Moines, surrendered five miles north of Ankeny after a highway patrol chase. Patrolman Byron Hockenberry fired at their fleeing vehicle, prompting the pair to exit and surrender following a lengthy foot pursuit near a farm.
The Daughters of Union Veterans met at the courthouse Tuesday evening and elected officers: president Mrs May Thomas, vice president Mrs Matul Smith, junior vice president Mrs Nina Graff, chaplain Mrs Kathryn Duttweiler, treasurer Laura Frances Shafer. Other officers will be appointed. A Chi mag party at Mrs Nellie Donaldson’s home was planned with a fish supper and gifts.
The OES group held a covered dish luncheon at Mrs. Llgud Eland’s home with fifteen attendees. A business meeting followed, and officers were elected: president Mrs. J. W. Enness, secretary Mrs. Llova Eland, treasurer Ray Vandenbers, and chaplain Roy Beaniel.
Town Iowa elects Dr. Raoul Calkins president of the council succeeding Brown. Officers include Knapp vice president Wirleh treasurer Monta. Episcopalian representation brings 14 denominations. Special committees will study administrative procedures.
