Lynch plans a new dwelling on Queens Avenue and Tavistock Street this summer while Alex MacFarlane advances church interior work and a metallic ceiling house on Moyie Mathe ground. Rising demand for carrier wages accompanies the building boom.
P G Routh received six new Peterborough canoes from the east this week. They are in great demand and can be used for both rowing and paddling. The boats are ideal for racing and Moyiea lake is expected to see more boating than ever this year.
Local news lists residents visiting Cranbrook Spokane Seattle and Nelson. Movements include J R Waldo for Foley Lockhart Larson of Winnipeg, Mrs Jas Wright returning from Cranbrook and J Pilger managing Moyie brewery. A W Davis now manages the Eucka mine near Sandon owned by the C M and S Co.
Don McKay district superintendent of roads trails and bridges visited Kingsgate with Government Agent Armstrong to review the Curzon to Kingsgate route for trail improvement. A wagon road is planned later. On return he inspected Mogie roads and promised substantial work in the area.
Two brothers named Sandstrom at Kingsgate appeared to go insane on Friday night. They talked and prayed, then jumped from their room window. One drowned in the Moyie river. a body was seen miles downstream. Constable Routh recovered the other and took him to Cranbrook for mental examination. he later regained sanity and was freed. They had been in Spokane drinking earlier.

Geo Whitehead hospitalized with mumps. Maude Bolen works at the post office during Miss Smith’s vacation. RB H Stewart returns to Rossland. Joe Goupill from Fernie now a Waldorf bartender. Hill family from Craparook visit, Lepentt stays with the Hills. Mrs B H Seabrook arrives from Montreal for a few weeks with Dr Harvie. W P Bromley leaves for Pembroke Ont to reestablish Moyie business. Joseph Ryan visits from Cranbrook for scenery and socializing. Dance at Cosmopolitan hotel honors new management. No Methodist church services tomorrow. Pastor Sowerbutts on Boundary visit. Sunday school as usual. For sale five bedroom suites and furniture priced at 150 dollars. Mrs Conrad and children plan Missoula summer. Miss Patterson arrives from Spokane en route to Revelstoke to visit her husband. WW B Willcox, Phoenix Pioneer editor, visits East Kootenay.
In Cranbrook Meg Wilcox plans to set up a typesetting machine at his office. Word says Frank Filbert’s wife died in Edmonton on the 7th. Mr and Mrs Hilbert Moyle left a short time ago. Rooms for rent three rooms over J P Burns meat market. Married couple sought. Dave Angus, injured after a fall at Lik Ridge last week, is out of hospital and expected back to work soon. A social dance at the Manhattan hotel Monday evening May 20 invites all.
The ore cars from the shaft house to the concentrator at the 8th Eugenes mine are now hauled by electric motor instead of mules. The system currently runs only to the mill but will extend to the Moyie chute once wiring is completed, with mules still moving cars from the chute to the tunnel mouth. Miners’ licenses must be renewed before May 31.
In a brief note from Creston, officers were installed at the new lodge with ceremonial rites described as orderly. The event highlights the organization’s ongoing growth and planned future activities led by named members.
D J Elmer builds a two story hotel at Kingsgate with a 54 by 70 foot frame and 22 rooms. The lower floor houses a dining room kitchen office bar and billiard room while the second floor provides large guest rooms. Construction cost stands at about 10000 with Elmer holding a Crown grant of 100 acres. He currently runs an eating house at Kingsgate and expects to move into the hotel within a month.
