Gentry to sail for France with YMCA secretaries unit

E R Gentry of Mt Vernon will leave Monday for New York then sail to France joining 200 YMCA secretaries called to serve with French and American forces. He travels with Mrs Gentry to New York. The YMCA contingent must report in New York by March 26 and will provide 25 men weekly until needs are met.

United States Garden Army planned to aid families

The Interior Department announced a plan forming the United States Garden Army with 5,000,000 children to supply families with vegetables fruits and eggs through summer and fall. Agriculture will recruit rural children. 46 060 teachers and several superintendents will manage districts. Members may wear insignia U S G A. prizes and honors will be awarded. officials from President Wilson downward endorse the move. Cardinal Gibbons backs parochial school participation. The program aims to be ongoing and help farmers with seed corn.
