William S Hart stars as Buckskin Hamilton a desert guide in 1850. On a St Louis bound voyage he confronts gambler Merton and Washburn who cheats in a game. A gunfight ends Billy Hamilton's death and Jane Washburn is driven to believe she killed him. Buckskin exposes truth, confronts Indians and enacts a grim sacrifice amid a desert trek from Council Grove to Santa Fe. The film ends with Buckskin departing as Jane treks a fading memory of love and loss.
