Ss. F. Bowman writes to Rockcastle County voters confirming he will canvass the county. He defends his two term record, notes tax book work and oil-industry duties, and appeals to voters to judge his efficiency, courtesy, and promises kept.
S. F. Bowman writes that he plans to canvass the county next month if possible without harming the people's interests. He thanks supporters and pledges honest efficient service if re-elected, signing respectfully.
J W Brown as Special Commissioner filed the 1916 settlement with Sheriff Cam Mullins showing due road bond fund 2018 98 general expense 584 06 bridge fund 1529 91 and public schools 855 78 all paid receipts filed June 25 1917 by County Treasurer W C Tate. Vernon Ky June 28 1917 Vernon Kentucky reports delayed legal ratification and accuses premature publication of injuring Mullins during county judge race.
Mt Vernon visitors include Judge and Mrs J F Dees and Uncle John W Baker. Henry Daugherty’s house burned with contents ruined. only a rocking chair, feather bed, sewing machine saved. Frank Cox shot Jim Sutton near Rockcastle river. Sutton died hours later. Cox surrendered and was taken to Mt Vernon. Numerous local updates on arrivals, marriages, industry and bank improvements fill this community ledger.
