Democratic Convention Nominates Wilson and Marshall for President and Vice President
At Baltimore July 3 the Democratic National Convention named Woodrow Wilson of New Jersey for president on the fourth ballot and Thomas R. Marshall of Indiana for vice president on the morning after several ballots. Wilson led with 990 votes to Clark 84 and Harmon 12, while Marshall won 645 versus Burke 305 and Chamberlain 157 on the second ballot, with Burke later withdrawn to unite the ticket. Bryan caused a stir by endorsing Burke and Chamberlain, but Marshall secured the nomination unanimously as the convention adjourned.
