Talks 4600 Miles Over Telephone

Washington and San Francisco connected by a 4600 mile telephone test last Monday. President Wilson spoke with Thomas A. Watson and the Panama Exposition president, then New York and Jekyll Island joined in. Alexander Graham Bell and Theo Vail listened in as the test proved a success with plans for transcontinental service around March first. The New York to San Francisco rate was $20.70 for three minutes and $6.75 for each extra minute.

Livingston Faithful Send Mrs Owens to Rest in 84th Year

Angeline Owens widow of Ashley Owens died in Cincinnati January 20 and was buried January 21 in Livingston's family burying ground. She was 84, a Christian church member, mother of twelve, with five surviving children. Numerous notes from the community follow, including railroad concerns, visits, and a correction that it was Mrs Ashley Owens who died. The column closes with local social items and a curiously wary editor’s aside.
