No Accident Week Aims to Cut Railroad Worker Deaths
Regional officials announce January 2026 No Accident Week across the Southern Region railroads. About 230000 employees will be urged to avoid injuries for seven days through bulletins rallies and exhibits as fatalities drop from 45 in August 1918 to 31 in November 1918 and injuries from 2100 to 1200.

No Accident Week Extends Across Southern Railroads
The plan, tested by the Central of Georgia in December, triggers a regional push to extend No Accident Week to all railroads under Federal control in the South. By January 19 about 230,000 railway workers south of the Ohio and east of the Mississippi pledge to avoid personal injuries for seven days. The Southern Region Safety Office reports 36,000 miles and 230,000 workers backing three hundred fifty safety committees. Daily telegraph progress reports will keep employees informed as rivalries sharpen the drive to reduce injuries.
