Death of Hon. J. C. Williams Our Oldest Citizen Passes
Hon. Jesse C. Williams died at his Carthage home on Wednesday December 5 1917 at age 98 years 3 months and 13 days after a brief illness. Born in Richmond Kentucky in 1819 he lived a long public life as merchant farmer and leader in religion and civic affairs. He married Mary Collier in 1850 and had seven children. He helped found Mt Vernon Ashford Lodge F and A M and served in the Missouri legislature and Carthage city government. Funeral was held at his residence with Rev E M Smith officiating and Moss Ridge interment followed.
