Report from Mt. Vernon describes a spring near the L N depot with a surface sheen of oil over limestone water. Six weeks of increasing flow yield both surface oil and bottom oil grains while nearby wells during 1905 produced gas and heavy bitumen but no paying oil.

The Rockcastle County Fair at Brodhead drew above average attendance with strong stock showing in horses hogs cattle and sheep. A new feature was races while Lincoln County day and balloon events drew crowds.
