Leaf Hopper Damage Stopped by Bordeaux
H H Jewitt of the College of Agriculture says potato leaf hoppers cause considerable summer damage to potato vines. Bordeaux mixture spray remains the standard control and acts as a deterrent to egg laying. Apply first spray as hoppers appear, then repeat every ten to fourteen days, with a possible third spray for full control. The pest is a small yellow green insect that scars leaves and causes browning, curling, and drying, with hot dry weather aiding its spread. Migration occurs in June and then again with a summer generation on late vines.
