Suit May Affect Local Race Track in Ashland
Joe Russell, a tax payer, asks a Frankfort judge for an injunction to block Ashland’s city council from allowing a lodge or private group to use Central Park for a fair and to stop the Ashland Elks lodge race meeting with pari mutuel betting. The Boyd circuit court previously refused relief and a decision is expected soon. The suit argues racing law should let county fairs run races without a license while private groups must obtain a license and be overseen by the racing commission.
