About 2,500 cattle at the market with medium quality and several good lots. Prices were strong for sold cattle though many remained unsold due to bad weather. Notable deals include yearlings at 33 per head and 34 per head for 600-lb to 700-lb steers and cows, with mules priced up to 400 a pair.

Fratricide Attempt Leaves Brothers Wounded in Smithville
On Saturday afternoon near the Owingsville pike crossing in Smithville, Dave Bly shot his brother Clarence Bly with a shotgun loaded with bird shot. The shots struck the forehead and skull but caused no serious injury. Clarence is jailed awaiting trial. The incident stems from a family quarrel and is the county's first such case in a long time.
