Gas reducer con man swindles citizens. refunds issued
A smooth con man sold many residents a gas reducer claiming it cut bills 20 to 40 percent. The device proved a small thimble shaped plug that merely obstructed gas flow. Mayor W R McKee investigated, refunds were issued, and the man fled town leaving several people stung.

Rising Found Guilty of First Degree Murder

Tobacco Coming In At Record Weekly Volumes
The weekly tobacco trade shows over 700000 pounds moved through local houses. Farmers House sold 222500 pounds at 25.48 dollars average last Tuesday, Whitehall 216000 pounds at 25.34 on Wednesday and Thursday, Robert son 35250 pounds at 27.35, Farmers House 235000 pounds at 24.55 on Friday. No sales Monday. Whitehall will resume Wednesday with a full floor. Prices remain near 30 cents per pound and the weed arrives in good condition and larger quantities than since market opened. Crep averages not available this week.

Miss Mary McClure Dies At Ghent Kentucky
Miss Mary McClure died at her Ghent home on Saturday at about fifty six. She formerly taught in Mt Sterling Public Graded Schools and was the daughter of the late Will McClure. She had been ill for months with a broken hip and was well known in Montgomery county for her noble character and many friendships.

Five Year Old Burns in Spring Street Grate Accident
A five year old girl, daughter of Mr and Mrs George Blake, was fatally burned by falling into an open coal grate at their Spring street home. She suffered severe burns from chin to knees and authorities fear for her recovery. The father works at Henry Greenwade’s blacksmith shop on Locust street.
