Good Roads and Health Policy Endorsed by Kansas Board

The Kansas State Board of Health endorses highway improvements linking good roads to better health. They argue that tidy roadside growth prevents disease insects, proper ditching aids drainage, oiling reduces dust and larvae, and dry roads keep feet dry to prevent colds, pneumonia, and tuberculosis. The report adds roads foster better temper and fewer injuries, noting fewer incidents on well maintained routes.

It notes the crown and brim have changed little in seventy to eighty years, with the silk hat originating in France and replacing the larger beaver version. It mentions cockade and looped ribbons as styles from royal courts.
