Winter Crops Would Save Much Nitrogen
Kentucky could save about 200 million dollars worth of nitrogen in one season by planting cover crops on land needing winter cover. Estimates by R E B Stephenson, crop field agent, say this would prevent leaching, yield over 40 million bushels of corn next year, and improve soil by reducing erosion and boosting organic matter. About 3 million of Kentucky's 5 million cultivated acres would need winter cover crops.

He notes Burbank produced over 10,000 specimens demonstrating end-stage ears equal to those at European contact, and urges conservationists to reduce corn waste while highlighting the crop's native history and significance.
