Life Service Is Ended For Mrs. Landon Chiles
Mrs. Landon Thomas Chiles died suddenly at her West Main Street home on Tuesday July 31 after a long life in the community. Burial was at Machpelah Cemetery on Thursday. She lived forty eight years as a married woman and left a legacy of acts of kindness and faith. Her husband Landon Thomas Chiles and three children Mrs. H D Van Antwerp Mr R A Chiles and Mrs L Tipton survive, with other relatives and friends mourning her loss.

Exemption Board Busy in Montgomery County
The Exemption Board began duties Monday morning and worked until ten at night led by Sheriff Harry F. Howell Col. A. W. Hamilton and Dr. J. A. Shirley Dr. C B Duerson aided Shirley as they examined 52 men with few excused for physical reasons and many filings for exemption It is likely hundreds more must be examined to reach the quota of 88 men with five hundred eyed as possible total. The board works quickly but thoroughly with assistance from several volunteers.
