Mount Dora Budget Stalled Over Police Salary Dispute

Mount Dora City Council fails to pass the final 1975 76 budget in a special work session over police department salaries and pay comparability with firemen. A new session is set for 8 p m next Monday September 29 to approve the budget with non salary items approved, including 400 for Meals on Wheels.

Monkey Bridge at Leesburg United Appeal Fair

Two customers tackle the monkey bridge at Venetian Gardens Leesburg as Walter Frisby of Mount Dora watches. The Lake Sertoma Club sponsored the rope walkway with Boy Scout Troop 71 assisting. About 300 people paid a nickel to test their balance. United Appeal of Lake County expects net proceeds of 2100 to 2200 dollars after expenses.

East Town Mount Dora Meeting Sparks Civil Rights Friction

About 13 residents joined Mount Dora City Council members at the East Town Community Center to discuss city problems and programs for Black residents. Critics said East Town is neglected while whites benefit from improvements and tax and utility charges remain. Former Mount Dora Topic publisher Paul Paddock dies at 68

Paul E. Paddock Jr. died at his Palm Beach home at age 68. He briefly owned the Mount Dora Topic in 1968 and later served 20 years as a Foreign Service Officer, with postings in Jakarta Casablanca and Moscow. Born 1907 in Des Moines, he began in printing at age 12 and worked as a reporter after government retirement.

Lake Carlton drawdown grant approved for restoration

The Southwest Florida Water Management District Board approves a 22500 grant to the Florida Game and Fresh Water Fish Commission to temporarily draw down Lake Carlton near Mount Dora. The project aims to revive aquatic vegetation and reduce algae, reopen the lake for swimming, and boost game fish. A temporary water control structure will require closing the canal to the public for 60 to 90 days.

Concerned Citizens to launch fall meetings in Mount Dora

The Concerned Citizens Association of Mount Dora will start a fall meeting series on the first Saturday in October. Acting president Albert R. Crone says the meetings will be descriptive critical and helpful of city administration and development. Speakers include Dean Van Landingham, an educator and former candidate for City Council, and Robin John, an architect with planning experience. The event begins at 10 a.m. October 4 in the Bank of Mount Dora community room.
