About 200 workers operate an 80 acre Zellwood plant run by Ralston Purina to grow mushrooms indoors. Spores from Switzerland are sterilized and nurtured in eight by six foot trays, with daily production cycles yielding multiple harvests and shipments across the Southeast.
Mount Dora City Budget Clears Final Vote and Park Cuts
Mount Dora City Council approved the 1976/77 budget totaling 2,864,704 with major increases for police, streets and sanitation and a 30 percent cut for the Park Commission reducing contract labor funding. The council also passed the second and third readings of an emergency ordinance abolishing the city court and approved a mutual aid fire protection pact with area departments. A street and sewer study grant of 20,000 was authorized, with a 297,000 project cost planned for paving and improvements on several streets.
