Amendment Plan For Schools Is Explained
Mount Dora voters were urged to study proposed constitutional Amendment No. 1 at a Kiwanis Club meeting with M. M. Ferguson of the State Department of Education. The plan would earmark part of auto license tag revenue for 30 years to fund Lake County schools, projected to total about 1.5 million dollars for building and up to 3 million in bond financing. Ferguson said local control remains and funds would be dedicated before other state uses, with about 48 million annual dollars to Florida schools if adopted. He emphasized Florida’s growth and the need to educate more than half-day students while avoiding extra elections or taxes for bond issues.
