Mayor Tom Champion plans to run for a second term and seeks harmony and a revitalized police department. Council President Bob Pearson announces he will file, aiming for better communication between mayor and council as five others pursue council seats.
Mayor candidate Pearson emphasizes council communication and interdepartmental cooperation as he contends with a potential resignation. Incumbents Houser Wald and others, plus challengers Van Landingham and Morgan Ray II, file petitions. Park board nominees Goodholm and Quinn seek re election.
Debra Ann Jones is crowned Homecoming Queen at Mount Dora during half time as escort Doug Tutin helps calm a mobbed crowd. Debby Jones co-captains the varsity cheerleaders in the event photographed by Steve Williams.
Earl A. Anderson of Mount Dora died October 24 at age 73. A former IRS examiner and tax consultant, he was born in Halfa Iowa on September 9 1902 and moved to Mount Dora from Louisville Kentucky 24 years ago. He was longtime Kiwanis treasurer and originated a Kiwanis travelogue series offering low cost entertainment for area residents.
Effective with the November 6 issue the TOPIC increases its single copy price to 15 cents due to rising production and distribution costs. Subscriptions stay at 10 cents per issue, with two year plans available. Florida rates are 5.00 per year or 9.00 for two years. Delivery is by mail on Thursdays.
