Dorans Watch As Lad Achieves His Eagle

Mount Dora hosted a Boy Scout Court of Honor where 13-year-old Mark Williams received the Eagle Scout badge. Mrs. Jean Williams pinned the award as Scout Executive and Troop 19 Master "Buster" Williams and Don Cheney of Central Florida Scouting presented the honors. Other Mount Dora Scouts earned merit badges in ceremonies led by Mayor Frank Stebbins and Juvenile Counsellor Kenne Pierce.

PTA Carnival Night Brings Town Together at Fifth Ave Field

Community groups join the Senior class at Mount Dora school for a Saturday PTA carnival. The event features a fried chicken supper, hot dogs, pies, bake sales, games, a country store and a big auction to fund the senior trip. Women Alarmed by Strontium Dangers in Atomic Tests

Mr. Amory announces a new street improvement program costing 9000 to 9500 dollars funded entirely by property owners. Manning Construction of Leesburg will lay hard surface on five blocks of Westland road and adjacent streets, with curbs deemed unnecessary. Leukemia, Grim Victor in Child Jacqi Bowie's Battle

Little Jacqi Bowie, a Mount Dora girl nearing age ten, died from leukemia after treatment in Waterman Memorial Hospital and Boston Children’s Hospital. Her family held last rites at St Mary of the Lakes in Eustis. She leaves two sisters, a brother, and grandparents.

A C Quixley Passes Away Civic Leader Downtown

A C Quixley 75 died Monday at Orange Memorial hospital Orlando after a repaired health decline. A Mount Dora resident for 31 years he moved from LaGrange Illinois for health reasons. He founded a real estate and insurance firm later joining his son Robert and his other son C L Quixley in Ocala. He served on Mount Dora City Council two years after arrival and led the Kiwanis as president in 1934. He was a Mason and member of the Chamber of Commerce Lake County club Lawn Bowling and Shuffleboard clubs. He is survived by his wife Julia two sons Dr C L Quixley of Ocala and Robert. Funeral services are at Wineell Home With Dr Robert R MNeed officiating and burial in Pine Forest Cemetery.
