The Lake County Chamber of Commerce adopts a 6 500 budget for the coming fiscal year covering newspaper advertising radio spots and publicity. It approves a motorcade from Orlando to Chattanooga with two cars from Orlando Orange and Polk counties and one from Marion. Mount Dora to Tavares Road Under Construction

Mount Dora and Tavares enter a new road project with Moore Construction clearing right of way grading and building a cement retaining wall along the A C L Railroad. Work crews are active at Fifth avenue as February surfacing bids await. A cement mixing plant stands east of Mount Dora near the fertilizer plant as a steam shovel follows to speed completion.

Epworth League Elects Officers at Mount Dora

The Epworth League of Mount Dora M E Church elected new officers for the year. Daniel Bishop is president with R N White Jr and Alice Franklin as first and second vice presidents. Others include Vada Ham Alfred Carter Louise Lane and Margaret Sidel with Shirley Schon enberger as chair of musical programs and Frances Elder as pianist. The group also plans a Sunday program with stereoptical pictures and special musical features by the league quartet.

Lake County selects talent for state radio broadcasts

Lake County Chamber of Commerce announces Carl Duncan of Tavares as chairman of the Lake County broadcast committee. Roger Giles Otis Ham and Dr Wyeth Duncan are named to assist as program makers for five WRUF Gainesville programs from November to March. Transportation and incidental costs are budgeted. Paul T Harber will coordinate trips and may serve as announcer.

Mount Dora Post Elects Officers in Legion Meeting

The Mount Dora Post of the American Legion held an evening meeting last Wednesday to elect officers. O. D. Stevens became Post Commander with Burgess Thayer as vice commander, Harold Overhiser as adjutant, Joe Tucker as sergeant at arms, and Daniel Bishop as chaplain. Plans include a play Chocolate Drops and a Country Store Auction to raise funds. Past commanders buttons will be given to Thos Cooley George White and Daniel Bishop at the joint installation with the Women’s Auxiliary.

County Schools in Lake Show 10 Percent Gain in Enrollment

Lake county reports after the first month of the 1930 31 term a total enrollment rise of 9.1 percent. White students numbered 3542 in September 1930 versus 3270 in 1929. Colored enrollment grew from 1193 to 1330 with attendance gains of 2 and 1 3 percent respectively. Overall attendance up 4 09 percent and average attendance up 3 33 percent.
