Connecticut farmers, a Boston lawyer, a midwest banker, and a California insurer contributed amid personal sacrifices. A New York field worker quit a $7,500 government job to stay with UWF as delegates recalled Ashville beginnings and honored Carl Van Doren with a memorial fund reaching $8,500.
