Mount Dora Chamber of Commerce reports 1046 dollars raised toward a 7500 dollar City grant matched renovation of the Chamber’s new quarters in the Seaboard Coast Line station. Work starts after Thanksgiving with occupancy targeted by late January.
Five candidates qualified for three Mount Dora City Council seats and two for the Park Commission posts by the filing deadline. Incumbents and newcomers gave positions on the ballot with statements on growth, zoning variances, and local projects. The election is set for December 12 with registration ending December 4 at City Hall.
The Mount Dora City Council engaged in a heated session after a verbal clash with a Concerned Citizens representative. The board approved a variance for three Sherwood Forest homes on Eleventh Avenue to exceed the 1200 sq ft minimum, tabled another Johns Street variance, and heard the county approve 122000 for Lincoln Avenue paving from Donnelly Street to US 441 with costs possibly shared by Neal Haber for City work.
Trailways will petition the Florida Public Service Commission for reconsideration of a two year old denial of authority to serve central Florida including Mount Dora along US 441. Director of sales John Dishong Jr says rehearing briefs are due November 28 with an oral hearing December 11. Greyhound currently holds the exclusive franchise in the Mount Dora area.
