Asie Influenza Float Wins Mount Dora Contest for $25

Mount Dora high juniors built a giant flu bug float named Asie for homecoming. Phyllis Pringle designed the bug with napkin stuffing and wire, winning first prize of $25 from the Merchants Association. Judges praised the dramatic display as students packed the streets with onlookers.

Second Turkey Drawing Near at Donnelly Park

The second Turkey drawing will be held at Donnelly Park at 7 p.m. Saturday with tickets deposited until 5 p.m. Saturday. Tickets are available at the Topic Office with rules requiring the winner to be present. prizes include turkeys of 20, 14, 12, and 10 pounds won by W. H. City May Get Claim for Angora Cat Shot by Police

Police chief James Orr confirmed an Angora cat was shot from a tree after a complaint from a neighbor who feared for her dog and children. The health officer approved the shooting after the cat showed no rabies signs. shots followed the animal hiding near a widow’s home. The owner disputes the event and says no rabies risk existed.

Cornelia Otis Skinner Opens Mount Dora Concert Series

Famed humorist and sketch artist Cornelia Otis Skinner will be the first performer in Mount Dora Mutual Concert series. Admission is by membership only, available this week through the Chamber of Commerce or drive committee. Rev. John F. Mangrum heads the Mount Dora association, with Mrs. Berrien McCain, Russell Grumman, Miss Louise McClure in Mount Dora, and Mrs. W. C. Daniells of Eustis on the membership committee.

Lake Dora water level hits 62.7 feet above minimum

E. J. Burrell, chairman of the Ocklawaha Basin water control authority, told City Council that Lake Dora stood 62.7 feet above the 62-foot minimum. He noted the level dipped slightly on Nov. 14 and the Haynes Creek locks were gradually closed to retain water.

Bristow heads the affiliated Florida Sewage and Industrial Waste association with Sidney Berkowitz as regional Health official vice chairman.
