Mount Dora Landscape Transforms Bare Lot Into Home
The Van Voorhis at Pinecrest Mount Dora share a detailed landscape story from May 1940. W C Hartline of Sanford designed and supervised the project turning a bare lot into a blended garden of Wax Lagustrum Yucca and Papaya with live oaks and Spanish moss. The feature includes a lotus pool two-foot base, a stone bridge, a cosy seating area, and a flexible terrace, with diverse plantings intended to endure winter and age gracefully. The family notes years of satisfaction as the house evolves from first plantings in 1940 to a full residence with a lake view and open grounds beside a long driveway.

Pious Toasts and Tightly Woven Home Truths
The excerpt blends social quips about money disagreements and gender roles with light humor. It notes a man’s wealth may be symbolic, urges viewing situations from a spouse’s perspective, and mocks overpromising medicines while recalling old fashioned toast making and breakfast rituals.
