Mount Dora High Commencement Exercises Planned
Commencement exercises at Mount Dora High School Auditorium are set for Friday May 31 1946 at eight o clock. The program includes a presentation of awards and diplomas with the Glee Club performing Night and Day and classic selections by Franz Haydn. A reception for the speaker and graduates will follow in the social room hosted by the Sophomore Class.

4-H Club Leader Ann Pike of Mount Dora Shines
Lake County 4 H leader Ann Pike a Mount Dora High sophomore, compiled a record of blue ribbons and prize money from poultry shows and dress contests. Her projects began with 100 baby chicks in 1945 and have netted over 200 dollars, plus 28.50 in prizes. she plans to expand with 100 more chicks. She served as president of the Lake County 4 H Clubs and demonstrated poultry judging at the Achievement Day program in Tavares.

Legion Honors Local Veterans Curtis Jackson and Richard Van Voorhis
The Legion spotlights Curtis H Jackson and Richard R Van Voorhis for Navy service. Jackson served December 1942 to December 1945 on USS Mission Bay and in the Midway, rated seaman in aviation with ribbons. Van Voorhis enlisted April 1941, served as radio man and gunner on PBYs and SBCs mainly in Panama and Bermuda, discharged after two and a half years. ribbons include Pre Pearl Harbor, American Theatre, American Defense, Good Conduct. The closing service at Community Church featured Dr. Richards delivering The End of the World message last Sunday. Memorial Day Service Kicks Off in Mount Dora
Memorial Day observances are held today at 4:00 p.m. in the Community Building under Mount Dora Post No. 35 American Legion and its auxiliary. A parade begins at 3:30 p.m. from the Community Church with a color guard, firing squad, and Manuel J. Sedano Memorial Band leading to the auditorium. Judge Victor Hutchins delivers the address after a wreath and citations to families of deceased veterans. Citizens are invited to attend and later view a water safety demonstration at the Lake Side Inn pools.

Mrs. Ray M. Blanchard Jr. receives the Purple Heart and a Navy citation for Meritorious Service Earned in the face of the enemy for Ray M. Blanchard AM2c. The Mount Dora native died in active combat while serving on the Franklin. He served as Aviation Metalsmith 2nd Class and was aboard during the ship’s perilous attack by a Kamikaze. Memorial Day honors his sacrifice alongside other area servicemen.
