Mount Dora Declares Clean Up Week June 17
Mount Dora Mayor Jesse Willmott announced during the city council meeting that June 17 is Clean Up Week. Residents are urged to improve yards and homes while city trucks collect large curbside items such as bed springs and refrigerators. Memorial Day closures include the post office Mount Dora City Hall and most government buildings and businesses.

Mount Dora Native Killed in Vietnam
Private First Class Claude Pullen, 19, a former Mount Dora resident and Christian Home and Bible School attendee, was killed in action in Vietnam last week. Survived by four sisters Eugenia Cathy Debbie and Donna in Mount Dora and brother Staff Sgt Eugene Pullen stationed with the U S Air Force in Frankfurt Germany. Services were held in Mount Dora with interment at Station Memorial Cemetery in Stanton Pennsylvania.

Mount Dora Lt Guthrie Wounded in Vietnam Near Hamburger Hill
First Lt. Paul A. Guthrie son in law of Mr and Mrs Kendall R Jones of Mount Dora has been wounded in Vietnam. He suffered a facial gunshot wound with internal injuries but is in good condition charing progress writes. He will be transferred to a hospital in Japan for about a month before returning to the United States. Guthrie, a Florida Southern College ROTC graduate and member of the 82nd Airborne, is married to Diane Jones and has been living with her parents on Lake Joanna while she taught in Zellwood.

A group of stroke patients attends a program at Camp Challenge this week to relearn activities such as transferring from wheelchair to bed or bath and cutting meat with one arm. They share experiences and support with others facing similar handicaps.
VISTA Volunteer Anne Byrne Says Goodbye at Mount Dora
Last week a going away party was held at East Town Community Building for Anne Byrne a VISTA volunteer who lived in Mount Dora for nine months She leaves to attend summer school to earn credits for college graduation next June The event featured a poem by Keith McNair several speeches from local leaders and many gifts plus a reception Byrne arrived last August with Carleen Olson who later left for a teaching post in California She requested more VISTAs be sent to Mount Dora for this summer.
